BECKY HEINIG

October 2, 2017

Coaches Comments

Coach Annie: Becky has quiet courage. She does not let anything get in her way. Becky does not care whether she finishes first or last, she always finishes and has a great attitude. Becky is willing to learn and continues to get better at whatever she does.

What is the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?

This is definitely the strongest that I've ever been physically. It's a good feeling when you can lift or carry something in everyday life without a problem that you couldn't before (the 40 lb. bags of dog food come to mind).

What do you like about it?

Beyond the variety of movements and the physical changes that have come about as a result, another huge thing is the support of the people around you. Going to a 5:15 a.m. CrossFit class isn't always the easiest task, but being there with people who support you and want to see you succeed is something that I never found in any other type of fitness class that I've participated in.

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? Why?

Currently it's a tie between double unders and pull ups. I worked really hard to get these movements down and to build up my strength/stamina to string a bunch of them together. It feels really good to now be able to do these during a workout and not have to scale them.

What would you say to someone who wants to try it?

I think there's a common misconception that you have to already be in shape to do CrossFit - this is certainly what I thought and the reason why it took me a whole year to join my husband in a class. There's always going to be someone who is faster or stronger than you and that's OK. There's nothing wrong with scaling a workout - this helps you to build your strength up and safely complete the workouts. We all have to start somewhere!

What is something people might not know about you?

I was a member of the UConn Kickline team for 3 years - we were like The Rockettes and got to perform during some of the basketball halftime shows. I'd like to say we were kind of a big deal but... :)
